So much earlier that I had planned on, we now have a dog. I told the kids awhile ago that when Leah was potty trained we would get them a puppy. Obviously I am a big sucker, because Leah is far from potty trained and we now have a puppy. Seriously though - who could resist that face.
Our neighbors decided to breed their Shitzu and told us we could have first dibs on a puppy if we wanted. And yes, the kids wanted. After much thought, I decided to give into the pleading and begging. So now instead of potty training a child, I am potty training a dog.
Our first challenge was choosing a name. We made a list in the car the day before on a drive to Liberty park the day before we got him. A few of the suggestions were: scooter, skeeter, weezer, green car (that was Carter's), toby, harley, Chief (jeff's favorite), and many many more. The kids wanted scooter and Jeff wanted Chief - so somehow they settled on Harley - which actually fits him well.
In the 2 days that we have had him, we are already very attached. He doesn't have to walk because there is always a child carrying him around like a baby. He loves to be outside and is not so fond of being locked in his kennel, although seems to be accepting it. We always had a dog when I was little, and at one time 2. I am excited for my kids to have them same experience.
